Casa das Mudas Arts Centre
The view from the Casa das Mudas Arts Centre is of the magnificent Ocean. From its perch, it is also possible to see the center of the village of Calheta and its artificial sand beach. When the weather is nice, the terrace is an inspiring and relaxing space. The building is in full harmony with the natural landscape. It is the work of architect Paulo David, and it earned him a nomination for the 2005 Mies van der Rohe Award (or European prize for contemporary architecture).
This internationally acclaimed building is a setting for exhibitions, musical performances, plays, and conferences. The 'Casa das Mudas' features a 200-seat auditorium, a library, a shop, a café, a restaurant and a large area for cultural events as well as artists’ studios, workshops, and a covered parking.
