Lime Route Museum Centre
If you opt for a visit to the Lime Route Museum Centre, you will enjoy, a set of marine fossils over five million years old that was found in the mines where the limestone was extracted.
The Centre is a 12 thousand square meters area where you can experience various activities and learn about the tools used in the production of lime, the limestone mines themselves, a lime kiln, and other buildings.
In the welcome centre, visitors can watch a video about how lime is made, including its cooking. Several posters illustrate processes of the cycle of lime from the transportation of the stone to the water transport. The Museum of Cal is located on the site of Barrinho, in Lameiros, in São Vicente and was recognized for its public interest mission by the Regional Government of Madeira.
