The quiet municipality Machico is a land of great restaurants and good hotel services, with very diversified and beautiful landscapes that invite you to beautiful walks.
The natural beauty of this location is as attractive as its rich history. Was in the bay of Machico where landed the first discoverers of Madeira, João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira, between 1418 and 1420.
This municipality is composed of five villages: Porto da Cruz, Caniçal, Machico, Santo da Serra and Água de Pena. In Caniçal, is located one of the most important fishing ports of the archipelago.
Among the places to visit stands out the Whaling Museum, located in Caniçal, which tells the story of whaling in Madeira and develops a work of awareness and conservation of cetaceans.
Other attractions are the viewpoints of Pico do Facho and Portela whose views are amazing. For those who enjoy walking paths, Machico is indeed a temptation. Among multiple paths, stands the Levada da Portela, Levada of Castelejo in Porto da Cruz, the Levada of Caniçal and Vereda of Ponta de São Lourenço in Caniçal.
If you prefer the beach, the municipality has several bathing areas, being the most sought after the beaches of Machico, Prainha of Caniçal, the pools of Porto da Cruz and the beach of Lagoa in Porto da Cruz.
