Porto Moniz
The natural pools of Porto Moniz, carved into volcanic rock, were for many years the hallmark of this northern county. It is true that now the village has a much larger set of attractions ranging from nature activities to interesting and modern infrastructure, such as:
The Madeira Aquarium and the Centre for Life Sciences.
In the Madeira Aquarium, located in the town centre, you can enjoy the various "habitats" of the Madeiran marine world. The Living Sciences Centre, nearby, allows you to enjoy the intriguing scientific exhibits.
A land of unique beauty, Porto Moniz is rich in green areas which are perfect for going on walks. For example, the walk from Lamaceiros to Galhano, Fonte do Bispo to Lamaceiros and Fanal, arriving at Levada dos Cedros.
This county comprises four parishes – Achadas da Cruz, Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela, and Seixal, known for their esplanades along the sea, their crafts, and their lookout points from which we can highlight "Véu da Noiva" ("Veil of the Bride") and the Santa viewpoint which offers a beautiful view over the parish of Porto Moniz.
