Ribeira da Janela
The parish of Ribeira da Janela has been very popular in recent years, particularly because of its campsite which has excellent facilities and enjoys a good location by the mouth of the river.
This agricultural land, which grows mostly potatoes and grapes for wine, stands out for the beauty of its landscapes and characteristic birds of the region. Along the coastline one can also see the islets which gave their name to this parish.
For at least four centuries, crossing the Ribeira da Janela was a difficult and dangerous experience. However, in 1891, a metal bridge was installed over the river, which made the life of the local people a lot easier. Finally, in 1956, a stone bridge was built that remains to this day.
Due to its small size, Ribeira da Janela has little by way of heritage. The hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação is one of the monuments you can visit there.
