Campanário
This town owes its name to an islet, similar to the bell tower of a church, which is situated along the coast. Campanário is a verdant town with a splendid view over the sea and a strong agricultural tradition.
Various documents indicate that this settlement was established in 1556 and the parish in 1698 The current church, dedicated to St. Sebastian, was built in 1963 to replace the previous church which was dated 1683 on the frontispiece, the date assigned to its reconstruction , since there is reference to a church already in place in 1677.
In this agricultural town, the Calhau da Lapa offers visitors a bathing area which is known for its crystal clear water and tranquillity. Although access is very steep, the area is very popular in summer, when local visitors enjoy staying overnight in the 'caves' (small partitions encrusted in the rocks) that exist there. Instead of using the pedestrian access, you can opt for the boat to access this beach.
