Garden of Indigenous Plants of Madeira

Garden of Indigenous Plants of Madeira

The Garden of Indigenous Plants of Madeira is located in São Vicente. It is a garden of indigenous plants of the local flora, where you can learn more about the botanical heritage of the archipelago.

There are over 60 species of indigenous flora in an area of 2,200 m2, including the town centre, from examples in the Laurissilva forest to typical plants near the sea. This space has the distinction of having been created in 1989 by the Barbusano Ecology Club in partnership with the Worldwide Fund For Nature.

Once in São Vicente make sure to enjoy the fantastic view of this village situated on the seafront, a land of surf and fine dining. This town is also known for the Caves of Sao Vicente, (underground lava channels resulting from a volcanic eruption).
