Balcões Viewpoints - Madeira Island
The Balcões Viewpoint is at the end of the Balcões path. Begins in Ribeiro Frio, near a well-known restaurant on the island much sought after by their specialties such as tomato soup, bread soup and skewered.
This small but very beautiful footpath, follows the Levada da Serra do Faial, giving access to the Balcões Viewpoint. It is a route that is recommended given its natural exuberance and diversity of flora and fauna.
After the short walk through the beautiful Balcões path and the Madeira forest, we reached with relative ease the promontory, from which you can admire the central ridge of the island and many peaks covered with lush vegetation and impressive height.
Between the peaks you can glimpse, in days of good weather, the Pico Ruivo, Pico do Areeiro, Pico do Gato, Pico das Torres and the rock of Penha d'Águia.
This is also a fantastic place for those who enjoy bird watching, given the wide variety of species that circulate here, namely the bis-bis, the chaffinch, the grey wagtail, the Blackbird, the robin, the buzzard and the rare trocaz pigeon.
