Eira do Serrado Viewpoint - Madeira Island
The Eira do Serrado Viewpoint is not only fantastic for its magnificent view but also by the tranquility and the almost untouched and wild nature. Here you can see the picturesque village of Curral das Freiras, parish that belongs to the municipality of Câmara de Lobos. Due to its inaccessibility this parish welcomed the nuns fleeing of buccaneers who attacked the island of Madeira in the sixteenth century.
Situated between towering mountains, this promontory is located at an altitude of 1095 meters. To get there, you must hike the path that starts at the guest House of Eira do Serrado. Here you can purchase various regional products.
If you choose to go down the small and rural village of Curral das Freiras, enjoy and learn about the traditions of this population that still dependents on the products of the land and which has chosen the chestnut as its king fruit. Savour the delicacies made from this fruit and relax with a beautiful walk through the area.
