Pico do Areeiro Viewpoint - Madeira Island
The third highest peak on the island of Madeira offers a magnificent view, in addition to owning a guesthouse and be equipped with a souvenir shop.
With 1818 meters of altitude, Pico do Areeiro is the most visited of the Madeiran archipelago. It is served with good accesses connecting it with the Pico das Torres through a well hike route. This walk takes three hours to complete and goes through several tunnels dug in the mountains that imply the use of flashlights and appropriate clothes to those who wish perform it.
The Pico do Areeiro is situated in the municipality of Funchal and you can get there by car. With good weather, it is possible to see from this promontory, the Ponta de São Lourenço, the Curral das Freiras and even the island of Porto Santo. During winter, the peak and the surrounding areas may be found covered with snow, and therefore it is an attractive to the islanders.
From this viewpoint, it is also possible to enjoy the landscape made of green valleys of the Laurissilva. This is the third highest peak in the region, after the Pico das Torres, with an altitude of 1851 meters, and Pico Ruivo with an altitude of 1862 meters.
