Pico Ruivo Viewpoint - Madeira Island
It is the highest point of the Madeira Archipelago and the third highest of Portugal, with 1862 meters of altitude, where is located one of the most popular viewpoints of the island of Madeira: the Pico Ruivo.
Despite being located in the municipality of Santana, this promontory allows, on days without cloudiness, the view to Curral das Freiras in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, São Jorge, Ponta de São Lourenço and Porto Santo.
With a breathtaking landscape, Pico Ruivo is habitat for unique species that prefer rocky environments to persist. This is the case of fetuses, mosses and lichens. Besides the flora, the fauna is also very diverse in this place. Here you can enjoy watching birds such as Eurasian blackbird, chaffinch, the bis-bis, the Linnet Common and Red-legged Partridge.
The peak is accessible by road from Santana or by a pedestrian path that stars in Pico do Areeiro. During the summer you can enjoy the services of the Shelter House of Pico Ruivo that operates just below the summit of the mountain. This is a viewpoint that can't be missed where you can watch a stunning sunrise. Take advantage and enjoy a hike. Dress to rigor and do not neglect your safety.
