Camping in Madeira Island
If you are seeking for an alternative to traditional accommodation, Madeira offers modern camping parks endowed with excellent conditions.
The Ribeira da Janela Campsite is located 30 minutes walking distance from the village of Porto Moniz near a bus stop and about a hundred meters from the beach. It offers showers, laundry, toilets, confection food area, playground and play areas. There are no restaurants or bars in this space.
In Porto Santo, the campsite is located in Fontinha right beside the beach. It has capacity for 800 people and is prepared to receive caravans and camper vans. The grounds features changing cabins, electricity, TV room, bar and internet access.
You can also choose for shelter houses, existing in various ranges of Madeira (Pico Ruivo, Pico das Pedras, Queimadas and Ribeiro Frio), benefiting from the beauty of these forest areas and eventually of the contact with the local population. All shelters have drinking water although the more isolated ones do not have electricity. To use these houses you must request permission from the Regional Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources.
