Madeira Museums
Madeira is an island that values its heritage. The region has a wide variety of historic, cultural and natural museums many of whom are hoping on interactivity to effectively captivate visitors.
Some of the island's small museums have important collections of ancient and modern art. The Quinta das Cruzes Museum is a museum that dates from 1953 with a collection of furniture and other objects of European art while the Museum of Contemporary Art has works of renowned artists, among them Pedro Cabrita Reis, Ana Vidigal, Gäetan and Eduardo Batarda.
A visit to the Museum of Sacred Art in Funchal, with its magnificent collections of paintings, sculpture, jewellery and vestments from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries, is a must.
The Photographia - Museum "Vicentes" is one of the oldest existing photography studios in Portugal.
The Madeira Story Centre stands out among the newer museums. It presents the history and culture of Madeira through interactive games, songs and challenges, and the CR7 Museum is a gallery of trophies from one of the best football players ever, Cristiano Ronaldo.
