Cabo Girão Viewpoint - Madeira Island

This promontory, which is situated to the west of the capital of Madeira and is built above the sea, on the second highest sea cliff in the world and the highest in Europe. The fabulous view that it offers over the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the bay of Câmara de Lobos is one of the most breathtaking for most visitors to Madeira Island.
A suspended glass platform, called a skywalk, was recently built to enhance the viewing experience of this fabulous landscape. This is also a popular spot for paragliding.
At the foot of the cliff, you can see a small area of farmland that the locals call "Fajãs do Cabo Girão" and is accessible by cable car. In the vicinity of Cabo Girão, you take the panoramic lift to Fajã dos Padres and the Rancho Cable car that takes you to Fajãs do Cabo Girão, where the clear waters are ideal for snorkeling.
In Fajã dos Padres, visitors can spend the night in rural cottages. The area, which is accessible by cable car or by boat, has a very interesting beach and a restaurant serving organic delicacies locally grown in these privileged settings.
Nearby, just above the viewpoint, you will find the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Fátima, which is surrounded by forest. The church was built in 1931 is one of the main pilgrimage sites of the island.
